PTS Initial AC/DCCR – (Personal Track Safety)

This is the basic entry-level competence you need to work on the railway. This allows you to undertake various job roles, provided they do not involve you interfering with the rail infrastructure. Most employers will require you to hold this competence prior to offering a position.

PTS Recert – (Personal Track Safety Combined Recertification)

This refresher course is intended for existing PTS competency holders who wish to continue working on or near the line on Network Rail’s infrastructure, including working near or adjacent to a DC Conductor Rail, and wish to be re-certificated. 

COSS Initial – (Controller of Site Safety)

This course is designed to train individuals who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competence.   

COSS Recert – (Controller of Site Safety Recertification)

This course is intended for existing COSS competency holders who wish to be re-certificated. The COSS is the person who is appointed to set up and maintain a safe system of work for a group (2 or more people) who are required to work on or near the line.

TIC – (Track Induction Course)

This course is intended to train individuals who are new to the track and whose work may involve the maintenance, inspection or renewal of the track or other duties that may affect the stability, position or integrity of the track infrastructure.

SW Initial – (Site Warden)

This course is designed to train individuals who are responsible for undertaking Site Warden duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to individuals required to prove their capability in these areas.

SW Recertification – (Site Warden)

This course is intended for existing Site Warden competency holders who wish to be re-certificated. This refresher course looks at the responsibilities for undertaking Site Warden duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to individuals required to prove their capability in these areas.

OLEC 1 – (Access Overhead Lines Construction Sites)

The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge required under OLEC 1 to access OLE construction sites safely and effectively for those who are directly or indirectly involved with OLE construction activities. This course is intended for candidates whose work involves accessing OLE Construction sites. 

Working at Height

This course is designed to train and make each individual competent when working at heights, teaching them about the hazards when working at heights, along with their responsibilities.

Level 2 Emergency First aid at Work

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to become an emergency first aider. The workshop provides learners with the skills and knowledge to deal with first aid situations in low-risk workplace environments for the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Level 3 First Aid at Work

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to become an emergency first aider. It covers a wider range of subjects than that covered by the Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.

Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety

This qualification is aimed at staff that have been recently appointed or intend to be appointed as a fire marshal/warden in the workplace. The course covers the latest fire safety regulations and the roles and duties of employees and their responsibilities on Fire Safety.

Traffic Marshal/Banksman

This course is for individuals who are/will be involved in the movement of vehicles. A Traffic Marshal (Banksman) is an operative trained to direct vehicle movement on or around site. This training ensures that organisations meet their legal requirements and reduce the risk of accidents.

Safety Harness Awareness

This course covers the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 and the Work at Height Regulations 2005. Both provide guidelines on the correct use and safety of a harness. Safety Harness is a vital piece of equipment used when working at heights.

LU-WSSI London Underground Worksite Safety and Security Induction & E-learning

The LU Worksite Safety Induction (LU-WSI) is an entry-level competence intended for staff that will work on London Underground managed infrastructure on behalf of TFL. The WSI provides staff with a health and safety induction for working on construction sites, rail depots and station maintenance.

COSS Assessment – (Controller of Site Safety Assessment)

The COSS workplace assessment is for existing Sentinel card holders endorsed with probationary COSS to convert into full COSS within 4 months of a COSS course. Individuals who wish to maintain their certification must successfully complete COSS assessments.

Level 1 Manual Handling at Work

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to safely move objects in the workplace. The course builds on the best practice guidance from the Health and Safety Executive and provides learners with the opportunity to practice safe moving principles.

NR Drugs and Alcohol Screening

In order to complete any training or work on the railway, you must first be deemed fit to work (Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements). Drugs and alcohol affect people's ability to work safely, which can be a major risk on the railway.

NR Medical Screening

In order to complete any training or work on the railway, you must first be deemed fit to work (Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements).   A Network Rail Medical Assessment will need to be completed prior to being enrolled onto the PTS course.

PTMP 16 Safe use of Trolley Equipment

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking track maintenance or renewals where they are required to operate Portable, Transportable and Mobile Plant (Trolley Equipment) in their daily work. This course provides the underpinning knowledge and practical experience on the safe and effective operation of Trolley Equipment. It is intended for candidates who wish to act as a Hand Trolley Controller on Network Rail’s infrastructure.

NR Point of Contact Drugs and Alcohol Screening (POCT)

In order to complete any training or work on the railway, you must first be deemed fit to work (Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements). Drugs and alcohol affect people's ability to work safely, which can be a major risk on the railway.

DCCR (Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail)

This course is intended for all staff that will be required to work near or adjacent to DC conductor rail on behald of Network Rail. It spurpose is to provide staff that will carry out work near or adjacent to DC conductor rail with the underpinning knowledge required to safely carry out their duties in line with current Network Rail standards. Before attending this training, a person must have attended and successfully completed the Personal Track Safety (PTS) Course.

Small Tools - General

A one-day course to give the delegate a better knowledge and understanding of how to safely use a range of small plant tools, and an opportunity to practice setting up and using them in a risk-free environment. The course includes both classroom sessions with demonstrations and practical exercises. Individual practical and theory-based assessments are undertaken on completion of course.
